Cultural Event: Saraswati Day

Cultural Event: Saraswati Day

This May 20th, the Balinese will be celebrating Saraswati Day, one of the most important religious celebrations in the Balinese calendar, with many ceremonies held throughout the day and all over the island.

Saraswati Day is a celebration of knowledge and is named after the Goddess Saraswati who is the symbol of knowledge, arts, wisdom and learning. On this day, offerings and prayers are presented in temples, homes, schools, and offices as well as books and sacred texts, which are regarded as sources of knowledge. Held once every 210 days, ceremonies are usually conducted in the morning as the Goddess is believed to return to Heaven in the afternoon.

The day after Saraswati is Banyu Pinaruh, a day dedicated to cleansing. On this day, the Balinese will head towards the sea, sacred waterfalls or river to cleanse themselves and offer prayers to the Goddess before returning to their family homes to prepare and enjoy a family feast.

We Support Solemen

We Support Solemen

Want to give back to the people of Bali? Stay with us and you’ll be able to do your part to support and fund the disadvantaged here on the island! Prime Plaza Suites Sanur works closely with Yayasan Solemen Indonesia to give back to the local communities throughout Bali. Solemen is an Indonesian non-profit foundation that provides direct support and funding for the impoverished and the under-resourced as well as the disadvantaged and those with health conditions and impairments on the island.

The organization is endorsed by the Bali Government Tourism Office and the Bali Hotels Association and guests who would like to support Solemen can purchase Solemen teddy bears, key chains and other merchandise which we sell at cost at the front desk. They make wonderful mementoes and souvenirs which you can take home for yourself, your friends or your family.

All proceeds will be donated to Solemen Indonesia to assist with the organization’s Outreach Team of volunteer doctors, nurses, therapists, nutritionists and social workers. For more information and or to help visit www.solemen.org.
