Watch Sunset Kecak Dance at Uluwatu
31 October 2023
Uluwatu is a breathtaking coastal area in southern Bali, known for its sparkling white sand beaches, soaring cliffs with million-dollar views of the Indian Ocean, and the iconic Uluwatu Temple.
It's also home to the world-famous Kecak Dance, a traditional Balinese performance that takes place at sunset, near the temple. If you haven’t seen the dance before, be sure to do so the next time you’re in Bali.
In an open arena along a cliff’s edge, a group of dancers in traditional costumes and masks perform the dramatic retelling of the Ramayana. They dance and prance around a large fire, accompanied by a group of men chanting “cak-cak-cak” while moving together in a rhythmic and hypnotizing beat. The setting, with the sun sinking below the horizon against the fiery sky, is simply breathtaking.
The Kecak dance is a popular tourist attraction, and it is a must-see for anyone visiting Bali. The dance is performed every evening at sunset, and tickets can be purchased in advance or at the gate.
