Our Commitment to a Greener Bali: How Our Maggot Farm is Turning Waste into Impact
04 July 2025

At Prime Plaza Suites Sanur, we believe that hospitality should go hand-in-hand with sustainability. That’s why we’ve partnered with Bali MagiFarm to launch our very own maggot farm, a powerful eco-solution that transforms organic waste into something meaningful, for the environment and our community.
What Is a Maggot Farm?
A maggot farm uses black soldier fly (BSF) to naturally process organic waste, like fruit peels, leftover food, and vegetable scraps, breaking it down efficiently and quickly. These tiny creatures may not look glamorous, but their impact is enormous. Each day, they consume large amounts of organic waste, preventing it from ending up in landfills and reducing harmful greenhouse gases.
How It Works at Our Hotel
Every day, organic waste from our kitchen and restaurant is sorted and collected. Instead of being thrown away, it’s sent to the maggot farm where the black soldier fly larvae do their magic. Within days, this waste is turned into two valuable products:
- Protein-rich larvae used as sustainable animal feed (especially for fish and poultry)
- High-quality organic compost used for gardening and agriculture
Why It Matters
Organic waste makes up a large portion of Bali’s garbage problem. By adopting this innovative maggot-based waste management system, we’re proving that even a hotel can be a force for change. It’s clean, odor-free, efficient, and most importantly, impactful.
